Two Monroe men die in accident on Bold Springs Road

Two men from Monroe died in a wreck on Bold Springs Road in Gwinnett County in the early morning hours of Friday, Sept. 8, 207.  Eddie Paul Tory, 27, and Junree Morin, 27, both died at the scene and a third passenger in the car, Terry Carter, 25, was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver of the other vehicle, William E. Stump, 25, was allegedly driving under the influence on Indian Shoals Road at about 12:24 a.m. Friday when he “failed to stop at the stop sign” at the intersection with Bold Springs Road.

According to the incident report from Gwinnett County Police Department, Stump ran the stop sign, running his Honda Civic into the driver side of the Chevy Malibu, driven by Morin. The Chevy went airborne, landing 57 feet away and coming to rest on the roof before catching alight. Carter was thrown from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries. The Honda ran into a tree and Stump was extricated and transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Warrants were obtained against Stump for failure to stop at a stop sign, DUI – less safe, serious injury by motor vehicle and two counts of homicide by motor vehicle in the first degree. He also had six outstanding warrants out of Barrow County. He was release to the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s custody at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville.

GCPD report that alcohol and the lack of a seatbelt are contributing factors and speed also is being investigated. The investigation is ongoing.
