Two-vehicle wreck involving a tractor trailer results in the death of an 8-year-old from Monroe

A child from Monroe died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, in an accident involving two vehicles on Highway 11 at Emmett Doster Road. The accident happened at around 3 p.m. and resulted in the road being shut down for a few hours.

According to SFC J.M. “Buck” Buchanan, Jr., post commander of Georgia State Patrol Post 46 in Walton County, both vehicles were traveling south on GA Highway 11. A white SUV, operated by Gaoly Lee, 27, of Monroe, was stopped to turn left onto Emmett Doster Road when a tractor-trailer, operated by Patrick Edwards, 57, of Jamaica, NY, struck the rear of the SUV. The rear passenger of the SUV, an 8-year-old girl from Monroe, was pronounced deceased on the scene by the Walton County Coroner. The driver of the SUV was injured and transported to Piedmont Athens Hospital by Walton County EMS. Assistance was provided by GSP Troop E Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team and Motor Carrier Compliance Division. The investigation is being continued by GSP Specialized Reconstruction Team.

Buchanan said charges are pending upon the conclusion of the investigation.
