Not that far from the local area are two of Georgia’s state parks, Hard Labor Creek in Rutledge, Ga. and Fort Yargo in Winder. With Easter just around the corner and spring well under way, officials have release a calendar of events for April and May 2017.
Here are some of the events in the lead up to Easter at these two parks.
Hard Labor Creek State Park – Rutledge, Ga.
Hard Labor Creek Easter Egg Hunt – Saturday, Apr 15, 2017 12 PM to 1 p.m.
“Park staff will place candy filled eggs at the Lake Brantley recreation area for your little ones to hunt. Children will be placed in age groups (ages 0-2, 3-5, 6 and older). The Easter bunny will be on site for photos. Please bring your own basket. $5 parking. 706-557-3001.”
Night Hike and Scorpion Hunt – Saturday, Apr 15, 2017 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.
“We’re heading into the night to learn about the things that we can’t normally see. We’ll hunt for scorpions by using UV lights, listen for owls, and watch the stars. You’ll be meeting at the Trading Post (Visitor Center) to walk the easy/moderate 1 mile Brantley Nature Trail. Please bring a flashlight and wear sturdy shoes. $3 plus $5 parking. 706-557-3001.”
Fort Yargo State Park – Winder, Ga.
Spring Wildflower Hike – Fort Yargo State Park – Wednesday, Apr 5, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
“Join this ranger-led hike showcasing our beautiful waterfront trails as we learn about Fort Yargo’s spring flowers. This family friendly hike will allow guest to loop on lake’s dam along the nature trails all the while enjoying the best spring has to offer. Meet at the Nature Center. $5 parking. 770-867-3489.”
Bunny Tails & Trails – Fort Yargo State Park – Winder, GA Saturday, Apr 15, 2017 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
“Hike a trail full of Easter egg treats to find Fort Yargo’s favorite furry friends at the end. Each attendee will enjoy crafting a homemade Easter basket with the park rangers w/ all materials provided prior to the hike/hunt. This event features a live bunny presentation by our guests The Double W Homestead. $2 plus $5 parking. 770-867-3489.”
