Update: 17-year-old passes away following incident on Breedlove Drive last week

Update: 17-year-old Mackenzie Dawn Howard did not survive her injuries sustained in the incident on Breedlove Drive on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, passing away on April 6, 2018. Funeral arrangements have been made for April 12, 2018.


Monroe Public Safety Director Keith Glass reported that a 17-year-old teen was transported to Piedmont Walton and then flown to Emory following an incident that happened on Breedlove Drive in Monroe on Tuesday evening,

According to Glass, she “exited the truck she was a passenger in, while it was traveling down Breedlove Drive. Officers performed CPR at the scene until relieved by Monroe Fire Department.”

The teen was transported by ambulance and treated at Piedmont Walton, then flown to a trauma center for further treatment. A 17-year-old male was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Breedlove Drive in Monroe was shut down from about 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday night, April 3, 2018, as police worked what was described on the Facebook page as an “incident / accident with one person seriously injured.” The road was shut down and the area marked off with crime scene tape until about 11 p.m.
