Update: 17-year-old seriously injured in Monday’s GA 10/Cedar Ridge crash

A crash on Georgia 10 (Highway 78) at Cedar Ridge Road at about 1:35 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 20, 2021 resulted in serious injuries to a 17-year-old from Duluth.

According to Georgia State Patrol Post 46 Assistant Commander Cal Barton, Luiz Rivera-Menjivar, 17, was traveling east on Ga. 10 in the left lane in a Honda Civic and Teresa Connell, 54, of Monroe, was traveling west in the left lane in an Infiniti QX80. Both vehicles were approaching the intersection with Cedar Ridge Road when the driver of the Infiniti allegedly failed to yield while attempting to turn left onto Cedar Ridge Road resulting in a collision between the two vehicles in the intersection.

Barton said Connell received minor injuries and was transported to Piedmont Walton by Walton EMS ambulance. The 17-year-old received serious injuries and was transported to Piedmont Athens by Walton EMS ambulance.

“No alcohol or drug impairment is suspected of either driver. Charges are currently pending,” Barton said.

A crash on Highway 78 at Cedar Ridge on Monday afternoon shut down the road for a while Monday afternoon, Dec. 20, 2021, as one person had to be extricated from a vehicle and transported to a hospital by ground transportation, according to Walton County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Craig League.

“The patient was transported to Piedmont Athens with critical injuries – the patient has multiple injuries,” said Walton County EMS Assistant Director Jody Carter.

The accident is currently under investigated by Georgia State Patrol and information will be updated when it is available.
