Update: 3-vehicle crash sends two to the hospital, one with serious injuries

Update

A 3-vehicle crash Monday morning, Jan. 11, 2021, resulted in two people being transported to area hospitals, one with serious injuries.

According to Cpl. Cal Barton with Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened when Jessica Rehs, 27, of Athens was driving a red Subaru south on Ga. Highway 81 and slowed to turn left onto North Cross Lane. A gray Chrysler 300 driven by Vanessa McCartney, 49, of Bethlehem, failed to stop in time and ran into the back of Rehs vehicle, forcing it into the northbound lane where it was struck in the side by a red Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep Cherokee was driven by Joelene Sutton, 64, of Monroe.

The driver of the Chrysler had a complaint of injury, Rehs was transported to Piedmont Athens with serious injuries and Sutton was transported to Piedmont Walton with minor injuries. McCartney was cited for following too closely.

Walton County Fire Rescue is on the scene of a multi vehicle crash on Highway 81 at North Crosslane.

“There are several injuries reported, at least one critical injury. Multiple emergency vehicles on scene,” WCFR Assistant Chief Craig League said. “Hwy 81 is being rerouted from Bentley Road back to Bold Springs Road.”
