Update: 70-year-old Monroe woman dies in McDaniel Street wreck

Update

Trooper First Class Cal Barton with the Georgia State Patrol confirmed that Patricia Contento, 70, of Monroe, was killed in a head-on collision on McDaniel Street in Monroe on Monday, Feb. 15, 2018. Barton said she was driving west on McDaniel Street in a 1998 Toyota Camry when she crossed over the center line, hitting head-on into a 2007 Nissan Ultima driven by Paige Wyatt, 21, also of Monroe. There was a young child in the car with Wyatt.

Barton said it not known what caused Contento to cross over into the oncoming lane so her body has been transported to the crime lab for an autopsy. Barton said she was not restrained in her seat belt, but there was no obvious trauma to her body.

Update

The wreck on McDaniel Street in Monroe at Breedlove on Feb. 15, 2018 was a head-on collision and resulted in one fatality. The name is not being released at this time until notifications have been made. Details to follow.

Avoid McDaniel Street in Monroe between Breedlove Drive and Woodland Avenue due to a serious car wreck. The street is shut down and will likely be for a while.
