Monroe Public Safety Director Keith Glass said a man suspected of making threats to a school employee was arrested on Lacy Street and is now in custody at the Walton County Detention Center. Monroe Area High School and the Walton County Board of Education were placed on a soft lockdown Tuesday afternoon out of an abundance of caution.
In a press release, Glass said that MPD responded to a call regarding threatening phone calls and an email sent to Walton County Board of Education by Dwayne Cornell Jackson, 29, of 30 Parkview Homes, Athens.
“MAHS was placed in a safe lockdown posture until the end of the school day,” Glass said. “MPD and WCSO units checked several locations Jackson is known to frequent in Monroe. At approximately 1659 a WCSO Unit located and arrested Jackson at a residence on Lacy St. Jackson had an active Probation Violation Warrant, additional charges are pending.”
Monroe Public Safety Directory Keith Glass confirmed that Monroe Area High School was placed on lockdown Tuesday after someone phoned in a threat to the Walton County Board of Education.
“We know who he is and we’re looking for him, but we put the school on lockdown just out of an abundance of caution,” Glass said.
The person who allegedly made the threat is not a student, according to Glass. At 2:40 p.m. the school was still on lockdown, but Glass said the students would be heading home as usual soon. Glass said the person they are looking for is a 29-year-old male.
