Update: Bruce Smith, the husband of the late Char Smith who passed away last week, will open with limited hours this week. The best way to support this family is to support Bruce as he tries to fulfill orders and keep the shop running.
The bakery is located at 214 MLK Jr. Blvd in Monroe. Bruce will be back in the shop at Bruce’s Sweet Sensations with the following hours this week:
By now, many know of the sudden death last week of one of Monroe’s local businesswomen, Charmaine Smith of Bruce’s Sweet Sensations. Charmaine, just known as Char to the many who had come to know the bright, happy personality of the lady who always had a smile and a kind word for anybody who walked into her shop, died suddenly of a massive heart attack early hours of Friday morning, according to her husband Bruce, the name behind the family business. Char leaves behind her husband Bruce, and her young son AJ, who was the light of her life. She also leaves behind a father in Athens who she checked on frequently and a mother who has medical problems that had taken up a lot of Char’s time and devotion as she cared for her. The family is going to need a lot of prayers, and help, in the coming days. According to Bruce, the bakery is currently closed, but he is trying to fulfill orders on hand.
As the family struggles to come to terms with this loss, many in the community have asked how they can help. A GoFundMe Account has been set up by Diane Allen to help the family deal with funeral arrangements and medical expenses as they mourn the loss of their beloved family member. Alternatively, donations can be made in the name of Bruce Smith directly to Liberty First Bank in Monroe. Liberty First Bank is located at 1901 W Spring St, in Monroe, GA 30655
We will share funeral arrangements for Char as soon as they are available and ask for continued prayers for peace for her family.
