Update: June 29, 2018

After charging Jacquelyn Craft, 35, with aggravated assault and felony murder on June 26 after they had been called to the home the day before for the alleged stabbing suicide of her mother, the Gwinnett County Police Department and District attorney’s office have dismissed the charges. Officials announce that the charges were dismissed after additional information came to light during the investigation.

“GCPD detectives and personnel from the District Attorney’s Office have continued the investigation. Additionally, a post mortem examination was conducted by the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office. Additional information and the post mortem examination revealed evidence which was not available to investigators at the time of arrest,” GCPD wrote in a press release. “After careful examination of all of the evidence, the Gwinnett County Police Department and the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office have determined the proper course of action is to administratively dismiss the charges against Jacquelyn Craft.  This process was completed today, June 29, 2018.”

However, GCPD report that detectives will continue to investigate this case as a suspicious death.

Initial story

June 26, 2018 – Gwinnett County Police Department officers responded to a report of a death at 3809 Leach Road, unincorporated Snellville, at 11:30 p.m. last night, June 25, 2018. Jacquelyn Craft, 35, told police that her mother, Evelyn Craft, had committed suicide by stabbing herself.  Officers found the 65-year-old victim deceased from apparent stab wounds. Both women lived in the home where the incident took place.

Finding the circumstances suspicious, responding officers alerted detectives with the homicide unit and after further investigation by detectives and the Crime Scene Unit that contradicted Jacquelyn Craft’s story. She was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and felony murder. She is currently being held at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.
