Update
A prayer vigil was organized Sunday for 17-year-old Davious Deshon Branch, the Monroe Area High School student who was critically injured in a single vehicle crash earlier that day. He was life flighted with critical injuries from Minerva Beauty in Monroe to Atlanta Medical Center.
Students, coaches and members of the public gathered at 1025 Church in Monroe at 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening to pray for healing for Davious.
Cpl. Cal Barton with Georgia State Patrol said the 17-year-old was traveling west on Snow Mills Road in the oncoming traffic lane just after 1:10 p.m. when he lost control, overcorrected and ran off the right shoulder of the roadway. He traveled a total of 65 feet off the roadway, spinning clockwise before going into a ditch and coming out of it airborne. The vehicle came to a stop after it struck a tree with the left side of the vehicle. The driver had to be extricated using the jaws of life before being flown to Atlanta Medical Center.
Initial Story
A Monroe Area High School student was critically injured in a crash on Snows Mill Road on Sunday afternoon, according to Walton County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Craig League.
“Earlier this afternoon at 1:12 pm WCFR responded to a single vehicle crash the 2000 block on Snows Mill Road. The driver was the only injury,” League said. “He had to be extricated from the vehicle using the Jaws of Life. He was subsequently life flighted to Atlanta Medical Center with critical injuries.”
League said a landing zone was set up at Minerva Beauty on Jim Daws Road at Hwy 78 and the life flight helicopter landed and transported him from that location.
School administrators have been notified of the incident, League said.
