Georgia State Patrol have advised that the driver of this vehicle has since passed away as a result of his injuries.

Cpl. Cal Barton with Georgia State Patrol said the driver of of a white 1993 Ford Ranger, John Matthew Towler, 24, Monroe, was transported to Piedmont Athens with serious injuries following a crash at about 10:47 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021. The passenger, Joshua Randolph Hooper, 29, of Loganville, was not injured.
Barton said the initial investigation indicates that the driver failed to keep the vehicle in its lane of travel while negotiating a left curve on Edmonson Road, causing the vehicle to leave the road on the northbound side, travel through a ditch, up an embankment striking several trees in the process.
“(It) continued traveling approximately 108 feet before striking another tree and coming to a final rest. The area of the crash was on the northbound shoulder of Edmondson Road approximately .4 miles south of the intersection of Old Athens Highway,” Barton said. “The driver is suspected to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. This investigation is ongoing at the time, and charges are pending.”
Initial Story
Walton County Fire Rescue responded to a single vehicle crash at about 10:45 p.m. on Saturday night. Assistant WCFR Chief Craig League said the vehicle hit a tree resulting in serious injury to two patients.
“One patient had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters on scene,” League said. GSP is working the crash investigation. Walton County Sheriff’s Office and Walton EMS also worked the accident.
