Update
Georgia State Patrol said both the Rockdale County Sheriff’s deputy and the store clerk were transported to Piedmont Walton this morning when the deputy ran off the road and into the wall of Sim’s Gas Station where a female clerk was working.
“He said he was going west on Spring Street when he swerved to avoid two dogs that were running in the road. He hit a utility pole, crossed over Breedlove and ran into the wall of the gas station building where the clerk was working,” said Sgt. First Class James Buchanan with GSP, adding that the fender pushed the wall into the clerk resulting in both she and the deputy requiring transportation to Piedmont Walton.
According to the official report from GSP, when the vehicle swerved to avoid the dogs, it “left the roadway on the south shoulder, striking bushes and a street sign in front of the Taco Bell restaurant. The vehicle continued traveling west, off the roadway, striking a sign and a light pole. The vehicle crossed Breedlove Drive and struck a gas station building, located at 1309 West Spring Street. The vehicle impacted the east side of the building, crashing through the brick wall and striking an interior wall of the business.”
Buchanan said the accident is still under investigation.
