Update: Freightliner truck overturns attempting to avoid collision

Update:

Georgia State Patrol report that a 1994 Freightliner, driver by Ivan Romero, 22, of Covington, overturned Monday morning while traveling eastbound on Highway 78. Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class Cal Barton said Romero was in the right hand lane when an unknown vehicle ahead slowed to turn onto Southview Drive.

“In an attempt to avoid a collision, the box truck traveled off the south shoulder of Highway 78, striking a street  sign and a light pole then overturning onto its side,” Barton said, adding the truck was hauling insulation materials.

Barton said there were no injuries. The driver was cited for following too closely.

Monroe Fire Department and Georgia State Patrol are on the scene of an overturned truck on Southview Drive across from Cherry Hill Road off Highway 78 in Monroe. Expect delays in Traffic. No injuries reported.
