Update: GBI report victim is safe and suspect is in custody, GBI seek other potential victims

Update: Victim is safe and a suspect is in custody. The suspect, whose name is not being released but is from Jackson County, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, allegedly has a history of assault and child pornography. The victim is cooperating with the investigation. GBI believe she is not the first victim and they are asking people who have encountered this vehicle and if anyone else has experience with attempts to lure them into it to contact them. Police were able to track the suspect down by a witness who took note of the tag number.

Urgent press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation regarding the possible abduction of a college-age female in downtown Athens in the early hours of this morning.

Athens-Clarke County Police in conjunction with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are searching for and attempting to identify a college-age white female last seen in downtown Athens early this morning, October 24, 2018, at 12:15 am. 

Witnesses indicate that the female was last seen being coaxed into a Black Nissan Sentra vehicle last seen leaving the downtown area traveling east on Broad Street and was last seen in the area of Boulevard and Chase Street. 

Anyone with information about the female should contact the ACCPD at (706)546-5900.
