Update: GSP confirm no charges to be filed in pedestrian fatality

Family is raising funds for funeral


Georgia State Patrol confirmed that there will be no charges filed in the fatal pedestrian accident that occurred on Michael Etchison Road on the night of April 7, 2019. Mustafa Mohammed, 60, of Monroe was life-flighted to Atlanta Medical Center with critical injuries immediately following the accident. H passed away on April 15 as a result of his injuries. Witnesses at the scene the night of the accident reported it was a young driver involved and that he was  “devastated” by the accident.

In the meantime, the family of the victim is in the process of trying to raise money for what is now going to be a funeral for their loved one. A Fundraiser has been created on Facebook.


Officials with Monroe Police Department confirmed that man who was hit by a car while walking on Michael Etchison Road on April 7, 2019, did not survive. A pedestrian was hit while walking on Michael Etchison Road in Monroe at about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday evening, April 7, 2019. Monroe Police Chief R.V. Watts said the victim is being life-flighted to Atlanta Medical Center. Georgia State Patrol is working the accident.

Monroe Fire Department report that it was a 60-year-old man was struck by a vehicle on Michael Etchison Road. According to MFD Battalion Chief Andrew Dykes, the road is closed between McDaniel and Evergreen Subdivision.
