Update: The Gwinnett County Police Department announced the arrest of Donte Dieal Newcomb-Donnelly, 31, of Norcross in the Oct. 11 alleged murder of Anthony Bernard Miles, 41, at a gas station on Jimmy Carter Blvd. He is charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain crimes and is currently being held at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
Name of victim is being withheld pending notification to the next-of-kin
GWINNETT COUNTY, GA – (Oct. 11, 2024) – The Gwinnett County Police Department reported Friday morning that it is investigating a murder after responding to a report of a man being shot in front of a gas station.
According to a press release from GCPD, officers initially responded to 4169 Jimmy Carter Boulevard after receiving a 911 phone call about a man being shot in front of the location. Officers arrived, to find a male in the front parking lot of the business suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
Subsequently, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene and began the investigation. Currently, investigators do not have a motive for the shooting. The primary investigation reportedly indicates that the victim was approached by a male in the parking lot before the shooting occurred and then ran from the scene following the shooting. Officers set up a perimeter when they arrived but were unable to locate the suspect.
The identity of the victim is being withheld until the next of kin can be notified.
