Update: Hampton Inn to be built at Banker’s Blvd and W. Spring Street in Monroe

Update

In January, it was announced that  MRI – a top tier hotel chain – would be breaking ground on a new 80-room hotel in Monroe later this year. At the time it was’t clear exactly which hotel it was or where it would be located, but property on Martin Luther King across from Michael Etchison was identified as a possible site. It has now been announced that a firm location has been set and the sign has been put up to confirm it. The hotel will be a Hampton Inn and it will be built at 130 Banker’s Blvd on the corner of W. Spring Street. It is behind both Longhorn’s and Applebee’s restaurants and across the road from others, including Tokyo’s and Shane’s Rib Shack. There are also several other quick service restaurants in the surrounding area.

“They had a few sites they were considering, and the company settled on this one as the best option,” said Sadie Krawczyk, economic development specialist for the City of Monroe. “It will be an 80+ room Hampton Inn.”

Krawczyk said at this time she does not have a timeline for construction. Hampton Inn headquarters were unable to provide that information either.

Initial Story

Downtown Monroe announced that MRI Hotels, a top tier chain that owns and operates Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inn hotels, is expected to break ground on a new 80-room hotel in Monroe later this year.

“MRI Hotels has announced plans to build a new hotel in Monroe, GA,”  Sadie Krawczyk, economic development specialist for the City of Monroe announced Wednesday. “The 80+ room hotel is slated to break ground later this year and will include a swimming pool, meeting center, fitness center, laundry facility, snack shop, free wifi and breakfast.”

Krawczyk said the particular hotel brand is not yet being announced.

“MRI Hotels currently owns and operates Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inn hotels in the southeast with a focus on developing in small markets  with growing economies that are underserved by the existing supply of hotels,” Krawczyk said in a press release. “The company most recently opened a Hampton Inn and Suites in Forest City, NC in December of 2017 and is currently under construction on another Hampton Inn & Suites in Lenoir, NC.”
