Update: Head-on collision critically injures one in Monroe wreck

Driver of the at-fault vehicle was on suspended license and passenger with a warrant runs from the other 

Georgia State Patrol confirms it was a head-on crash that resulted in one person being critically injured in a wreck at Michael Etchison Road and McDaniel Street on Monday afternoon, Feb. 10, 2020. GSP Trooper FC Sgt. James Buchanan said the at-fault vehicle crossed the center line.

“One occupant was extracted from one of the vehicles and was transported from the scene by EMS unconscious but breathing,” Buchanan said. “A passenger from one vehicle fled the scene due to having an active warrant for their arrest. That person was identified but not located. The driver of the at-fault vehicle was driving on a suspended license.”

Buchanan said further information will be available in the morning.

Two injured in an accident on Hammond Drive just prior to this wreck
Officials with the City of Monroe Fire Department reported that officials were on the scene of a serious accident on Michael Etchison Road at McDaniel Street involving two vehicles. Four people were injured. Three received minor injuries and one person was rapidly extricated and rushed to Piedmont Walton with critical injuries.
MFD Battalion Chief Jack Armstrong reported that no ages or names being released at this time. Georgia State Patrol is working the accident. Avoid the area. The road is expected to be closed for another 30 minutes, possibly until after 4 p.m.
MFD Chief Bill Owens said crews were busy working a wreck on Hammond Drive just prior to the accident at McDaniel Street and Michael Etchison Road. The crews were then diverted to work the more serious accident. Two people were transported from the Hammond Drive wreck with non-critical injuries.
