Update: Hwy 81 was temporarily closed Thursday night due to a barn fire

Fire was believed to be weather related

UPDATE: Highway 81 north was closed for a period of time on Thursday evening north of the roundabout at Bold Springs Road to June Ivey Road due to a barn fire. Firefighters from Walton County Fire Rescue and the City of Loganville battled the fire that was fully involved when they arrived.

“The firefighters were on scene fighting the fire for several hours due to the structure collapse,” WCFR Deputy Chief Craig League said. “It was a total loss.”

League said it is believed that the fire was the result of weather. There was a storm in the area just prior to as well as during the call. More storms are expected through the weekend. According to the National Weather Service for north and central Georgia, scattered thunderstorms are expected across north and central Georgia this afternoon and evening. A few of these storms may become strong, capable of producing wind gusts between 40 and 50 mph and frequent lightning. Heavy rainfall will also be possible, which could lead to isolated flash flooding concerns.
