Update: Man shoots family member; is shot and killed by WCSO deputy

Update

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating an officer involved shooting that resulted in the death of Chavius Hollis, 26.

According to a press release from the GBI, the incident began when Walton County Sheriff’s Deputies received a 911 call from 3775 Lovers Lane, in the Monroe area of Walton County, regarding a disturbance by a family member with a gun who was reportedly exhibiting erratic behavior. Deputies and a family member entered the home with the family member attempting to calm Hollis down. Hollis allegedly raised the gun and fired, striking the family member. A deputy then fired, hitting Hollis, who died at the scene.

Hollis’ family member was shot in the leg and is expected to recover. No officers were injured. An autopsy will be completed on Hollis. Once the GBI has completed its investigation, it will turn the findings over to the Walton County District Attorney’s Office for review. The name of the officer involved in the shooting has not been released at this time.

An officer involved shooting off of Lovers Lane in Walton County is currently under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.

Awaiting further confirmation of details from the authorities. Fox Five is reporting two people shot, one fatally. No deputies are believed to be injured.
