Update: Man whose body was located identified; death ruled a homicide


Monroe Police Department identified the man whose body was discovered on Sept. 20 in a residence on Roberts Street as William Hensley, Jr., 67, of Monroe. His body was transported to the GBI Crime Lab where an autopsy was performed. The cause of death was not specifically revealed, but it was designated as a homicide.

Monroe Police Department is reporting that after the body of a 67-year-old white man was found deceased by a friend, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to assist with the investigation.

According to a press release from MPD, the body was discovered in a residence on Roberts Street. Police were notified of the discovery of the body at about 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020. The deceased victim has not yet been publicly identified.

There is a heavy police presence on Roberts Street in Monroe, according to Monroe Police Department officials. Georgia Bureau of Investigation is also on the scene following the discovery of a body.
