Update: Monroe man dies, charges pending in motorcycle crash Friday


A 59-year-old Monroe man died Friday afternoon just after 4:30 p.m. following a two-vehicle crash on Bold Springs Road involving a motorcycle and a Dodge Ram pickup. Lt. Stephanie Stallings from Georgia State Patrol said troopers from Post 46 in Monroe responded to the crash on Bold Springs Road and N. Crosslane Road.

Steven Riscalla, 59, of Monroe was traveling northwest on Bold Springs Road and the pickup, driven by Charles Johnson, 50, of Bogart was traveling southeast on N. Crosslane Road and allegedly failed to stop at the posted stop sign, driving into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcycle was unable to avoid the Dodge pickup, striking it on the left side behind the driver door.  The motorcycle driver was transported to Piedmont Walton Hospital via Walton County EMS but died at the hospital from the injuries sustained in the crash.

The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene to conduct further investigation and charges are pending on the outcome of the investigation.

Walton County Sheriff’s Office reported at about 5 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2020 that Bold Springs Road is currently shut down at North Crosslane due to an accident investigation. The road was still shut down at 8 p.m.

Avoid the area if possible as the traffic is backed up and not moving at this time..
