Update: Suspect in custody on Christmas Day murder in Monroe

Update

The Monroe Police Department reports that Andre’ Landon Lackey, the suspect in the Christmas Day murder of Kenney Lee Mitchell, Jr., 32, of Monroe, was taken into custody March 1, 2021. He is currently being held in the Walton County Detention Center without bond charged with murder, 2 counts of criminal damage to property, 2 counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm knife during the commission of a crime and reckless conduct.

Monroe Police Chief R.V. Watts confirms that a cash reward is being offered for information on the whereabouts of the suspect the Christmas Day shooting death of a 32-year-old Monroe man. Kenney Lee Mitchell, Jr. died as a result of a gunshot wound in the early morning hours of Christmas Day. A murder warrant has been secured for the arrest of Andre’ Ladon Lackey, 25, also of Monroe, in connection with this homicide.

Monroe Police Department reports that officers were called to Magnolia Terrace regarding a person shot at about 12:52 a.m. on Christmas morning. Kenney was pronounced dead at the scene and crime scene specialists were called in to begin the investigation. The suspect is reported to have fled the scene in a white 2002 Toyota Tundra before officers arrived. He is still on the loose.

Watts confirmed that this is an ongoing investigation. No further information is available at this time as to a motive or other circumstances surrounding the homicide. Anyone with information on Lackey’s whereabouts or the case is asked to contact the MPD at 770-267-7576. If you see Lackey, do not approach, but immediately dial 9-1-1. He is reportedly considered armed and dangerous.
