Public Information officer with Monroe Police Department, Officer Shannon Haynes, confirmed that at this time the suspect in Thursday’s shooting in Tanglewood is not in custody.
“Detectives and other officers are following leads at this time and also investigating the scene,” Haynes said. Around 2:43 we received a call for a gunshot wound to a male subject on Tanglewood Drive. He was transported to a nearby medical facility where he was then airlifted for his critical injuries. We’re not releasing the name of the hospital of course due to the nature of the incident. His status is unknown at this time.”

Monroe Police Chief R.V. Watts said the Monroe Police Department is actively looking for the suspect in a shooting that took place in Monroe Thursday afternoon. There is a heavy police presence in Tanglewood as a result.
“We currently have a male victim that was shot. He is at Piedmont Walton but I have heard that he is being lifeflighted,” Watts said. At this time the suspect is not in custody.
Maj. Scott Whisnant have said that schools were initially put on lockdown as a precaution after reports of shots fired. The students are being released in groups. He referred any further information to MPD.
