(Snellville, Georgia) Gwinnett County Police Department officers report that a 45-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman are both in custody following an incident that began at 7:15 a.m. this morning in the unincorporated Snellville area of the county. It began with an argument between Richard Travis Lott, 45, and Amanda Middlebrooks, 40. The 911 caller. The 911 caller reported that the male suspect was armed with a handgun and had fired a shot, but nobody appeared to be hit. When patrol officers and members of the SWAT team arrived at 7:24 a.m. Lott had barricaded himself inside a garage and refused to come out. Middlebrooks was also inside the garage and officers were not sure whether she was being held hostage. The full SWAT team was activated at 8:32 a.m.
Lott spoke to police by phone and ultimately spoke to negotiators before surrendering without incident at about 9:22 a.m. when he was subsequently arrested. Middlebrooks was located inside the garage after Lott’s surrender, but it was determined that she allegedly was free to leave and was not held hostage. Lott had several outstanding warrants from various jurisdictions and is a suspect in some property crimes in the area and Middlebrooks also had outstanding warrants. Both hve been taken into custody but no new charges have been filed at this time.
Gwinnett County Police Department report that the suspect, in this case, has been taken into police custody.
Gwinnett County Police Department is warning that its SWAT Team is on the scene of a business near the intersection of Stone Mountain Highway and Easy Street in unincorporated Snellville. The SWAT team is responding to a barricaded gunman call. There is a large police presence in the area.
