Update
Georgia State Patrol identified the two teens in Saturday’s wreck on Old Highway 138 as driver Makayla Taylor, 17, of Covington (Walton County) and passenger Emily Trew, 16, of Monroe. Although the 16-year-old was seriously injured and had to be life flighted to Grady Memorial Hospital, it is believed that her recovery is progressing in the right direction.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class Cal Barton said a 17-year-old driver received minor injuries in a wreck on Old Highway 138 on Saturday morning, Dec. 23, 2017. Her 16-year-old passenger was seriously injured.
“The accident happened at about 11.22 a.m.,” Barton said. “She was traveling south on Old Highway 138 and was negotiating a curve when she traveled off the roadway and struck a tree. The driver has minor injuries and her 16-year-old passenger was flown to Grady (Memorial Hospital).”
Barton said the vehicle was a 2006 Nissan Mirano.
“No drugs or alcohol or speed appear to be factors. The roadway was shut down for about 30 minutes to accommodate emergency vehicles,” Barton said.
At this time no names are being released.
Initial story
A 16-year-old teen was seriously injured Saturday following a single vehicle accident on Old Highway 138 between Nunnally Farm Road and Highway 138.
“One 16 year old female had to be extricated after the car left the roadway and struck a tree near the bridge on Old 138,” said Capt. Jeff Allen with Walton County Fire Rescue. “Crews worked for about 30 minutes to free the patient who was then flow via an air-ambulance to a trauma center in Atlanta with significant injuries.
No other details are available at this time.
