Update: Victim identified in altercation in Monroe that turned deadly


Monroe Public Safety Director Keith Glass said it was a party on Tanglewood Drive in northeast Monroe that turned deadly around mid-night when an altercation between party goers lead to gun fire. The shooting resulted in the death of Darrin Bernard Barnes, 43, of Duluth, Ga. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the City of Monroe Police department are currently investigating Barnes’ death.

Monroe Police Department confirms that an overnight shooting in the city Saturday night resulted in the death of one man.

“MPD and GBI are working a homicide that occurred at approximately midnight in the Tanglewood Drive area of northeast Monroe,” Monroe Public Safety Director Keith Glass said.

No other official details are available at this time.
