Update: Victim in alleged Monroe Estates stabbing claims he was injured playing basketball

The victim in the alleged stabbing incident Tuesday night is being uncooperative according to officials with the Monroe Police Department.

“Piedmont Walton contacted us with a male subject who had a severe puncture wound to the back that resulted in a collapsed lung,” Monroe Police Chief R.V. Watts said. However, although the injury was consistent with a stab wound, the victim told investigators that he injured himself playing basketball at a church in Newton County.

“But we couldn’t corroborate that with the church in Newton County,” Watts said.

With the injured male claiming that there was no crime, Watts said it is difficult for there to be an investigation.

Initial story

The Monroe Police Department is currently investigating a potential stabbing that occurred earlier this evening at Monroe Estates. Monroe Police Chief R.V. Watts confirmed that the male victim has been transported to the hospital.

A witness reported that an area has been taped off with crime scene tape and that there are many police officers on the scene.
