LCA to delay school start for two hours
Update
Social Circle City Schools, Walton County School District and Georgia Walton Academy have announced digital learning days on March 18 due to the potential for severe weather. Loganville Christian Academy will delay the start of classes by two hours.
“Based on current weather reports, officials are predicting strong storms with damaging winds and possible tornadoes in our area tonight and tomorrow morning. Out of an abundance of caution, tomorrow, March 18, will be a remote learning day. No students or staff are to report in person,” WCSD officials said.
Students are to monitor Schoology and their school email accounts for additional information. All extra curricular activities will be held as usual.
Initial Story
The National Weather Service at Peachtree City has put out a warning for Wednesday into Thursday, March 17 – 18, 2021, for the potential of hazardous weather in several counties in north and central Georgia, including Gwinnett, Walton and surrounding counties. The greater risk, however, is more to the west of Georgia.
Scattered to numerous strong to severe storms are expected late today through tonight with a strong disturbance and frontal system approaching. There is some potential for severe storms as early as this afternoon but the major risk will likely be tonight into Thursday morning as the area of storms pushes eastward. The main threat will be tornadoes with some possible strong or long tracking tornadoes. There also is the potential for damaging winds, over 60 mph, large hail and flash flooding.
