Volunteers sought for QPR training in suicide prevention

Suicide rates are on the rise nationwide and Walton County is no exception.  In fact, Walton County has among the highest suicide rates around the metro area. We have one suicide a month in Walton County. Suicide victims in our community range in age from teens to seniors and everywhere in between.
Walton Wellness Inc. is leading a county-wide effort to put more safeguards in place for suicide prevention. QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) is the start of this effort. The goal is to have QPR Gatekeepers at every school, church, government organization, clinic and organization across Walton County.
The initial meeting is planned for Nov. 19 in the Walton County Board of Education Annex, 1820 State Highway 11, Monroe. It will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and lunch will be provided to participants who reserve a spot. To reserve your spot or learn more, email DeDe Harris at waltonwellness@gmail.com.
