Walton County BOC to vote on 2017 millage rate Tuesday

Tax increase proposed

There will be a third and final public hearing at 5 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, prior to the August Walton County Board of Commissioners meeting. According to Walton County BOC Chairman, there were not many people in attendance at the first two meetings. This is the last chance for Walton County residents to voice their opinion on the proposed millage rate increase prior to the vote, which at the proposed rate will increase property taxes by 5:31 percent.

According to officials with the BOC, if approved this will result in a millage rate of 11.325 mills, which in an increase of .571 mills. Without an increase in rate, the millage would be no more than 10.754 mills. Officials say the proposed tax increase would be a $34.26 increase in tax for a home with a fair market value of $150,000 and $28.55 for a non-homestead property with a fair market value of $125,000. This increase is for the incorporated cities of Loganville, Monroe and Social Circle.
