Walton County School District shared on social media that the Walton County Board of Education was again recognized by the Georgia School Boards Association as an Exemplary School Board. The Walton County BOE has now been given this recognition for the eleventh consecutive time.

The GSBA Board Recognition Program is a three-tier process to achieve the highest level of board governance. The three recognition levels are Quality, Distinguished, and Exemplary, with Exemplary being the highest level.

GSBA developed this program to reflect the state standards, which offers school boards additional ways to increase their effectiveness. The State Board of Education developed the state standards for governance that form the foundation for GSBA’s awards and recognition program.

The criteria that school boards need to meet for Exemplary status are:

  • Demonstrate effective governance through clear policies and procedures.
  • Engage in continuous professional development for board members.
  • Foster community engagement and communication with stakeholders.
  • Show commitment to student achievement and educational excellence.
  • Maintain transparency and accountability in financial practices.
  • Implement strategic planning aligned with district goals and needs.
