The Walton County Domestic Violence Task Force recently concluded a material donation drive to benefit Project Renewal, the domestic violence shelter that serves Walton, Newton and Rockdale counties. Project Renewal had to postpone its Dancing with the Stars for Project Renewal event this year due to COVID-19. The event has been posted until March 2021, but in the meantime the local domestic violence task force helped where it could.
“The shelter had provided a list of needed items and donation bins were placed around the county and the response was very encouraging. These items will help Project Renewal as they provide a safe place for victims of domestic violence and as they transition out to a new life,” said Rick Baker, chair of the Walton County task force.

Baker said the task force exists to serve Project Renewal and the citizens of Walton County.
“The task force has three objectives that drive their activities,” Baker said, listing the objectives:
- Provide up-to-date training for all county first responders. This training will meet the criteria for certification needed.
- Increase public awareness about the issue of domestic violence so citizens know how to recognize the signs and know how to safely and appropriately respond.
- Raise funds to support the above activities.
The task force is a 501c3 organization and all donations are tax-deductible. If you know of someone that is experiencing domestic violence, or if you are in a domestic violence situation, you can call Project Renewal at 770-860-1666.
