Walton County Relay for Life is Friday in Monroe

The Walton County 2018 Relay for Life takes place on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Hurricane Field, Monroe Area High School on Double Springs Church Road. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with opening ceremonies.

The Relay For Life is described as “a fun‐filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society.” During the event Friday, teams of people will gather at the school and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. There will be music, food and fun things to do.

The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, community‐based voluntary health
organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem, striving for a world “with less cancer and more birthdays.”

Local teams have already had fundraising events leading up to Friday’s relay.  

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life annual fundraiser is the largest in the world. It unites people and communities across the world in a celebration of those who have battled cancer, remembering those who have been lost to cancer and taking action to make a difference in the future.

Funds raised help the American Cancer Society are used to provide free information and support for those facing cancer, educate people on how to reduce their risk and share the importance of early detection.
