Walton County residents now have a permanent place to honor their veterans

After years of planning, fundraising, organizing and finally construction, Walton County’s veterans now have a permanent memorial honoring their service and sacrifice. In a moving ceremony on Friday, the newly completed Walton County Veterans Memorial was dedicated and the ribbon was cut on a park that is now open to all residents to visit. It is located at the Government Buildings on Hammond Street in Monroe.

In an emotional speech, Walton  County Commission Chairman Kevin Little expressed his regret that Joe Jackson, the veteran whose dream it was to bring such a memorial to Walton County, did not live to see his dream realized.
