Group to hold public appearance Thursday

Walton In Action, the local activist group aiming to recall Walton County Chairman David Thompson, announced they will seek review by the Georgia Supreme Court after a recent Superior Court ruling striking down the recall effort.

“Our volunteer team and thousands of supporters remain resolved,” Gareth Fenley, chairperson of Walton in Action, said. “Our story is not done. This is our next chapter as we move forward together.”

Fenley said the group remains dedicated to the maxim that public officials must remain accountable to the people they serve.

“We are pursuing this appeal to ensure that the people of Walton County are heard,” Fenley said. “No one should be prevented from holding elected officials accountable. We believe the Georgia Supreme Court is the proper venue to address the critical issues raised in this case.”

While the legal process continues, Fenley said, the movement grows. Citizens voice their determination as more volunteers step forward. Fenley added that residents from every corner of the county are calling for transparency,  accountability and an end to being intimidated by what many have called “The Good Old Boys Club.”

“This is a nonpartisan citizens’ movement created by the people of Walton County uniting together,” Fenley said.

Walton in Action will hold gather at 4 p.m. Thursday on the steps of the Historic Courthouse downtown to formally announce the appeal to the Georgia Supreme Court, before marching in the Monroe Christmas Parade that evening.
