Weather Alert: High Fire Danger issued for local area

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement warning of high fire danger this afternoon into the evening for north and central Georgia due to low relative humidities. This includes Walton, Gwinnett and surrounding counties.

“There is a high fire danger alert issued for our area for this afternoon. Low relative humidity, and expected winds at 10 mph, make conditions favorable for brush fires,” Walton County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Craig League said. “We had several brush fires yesterday afternoon, and Monroe Fire did also.”

Relative Humidities of 25 percent or less can be expected for 4 or more hours this afternoon into the evening. Winds will be southwest at about 10 MPH. With dry fuels, high fire danger conditions can be expected. Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities whether you may burn outdoors. If you do burn outside, use extreme caution.
