Due to forecasted inclement weather conditions, Gwinnett County trials and hearings are canceled today.All Gwinnett County Transit Express bus routes are canceled. Local bus routes and paratransit service are delayed until 10:00am. Local service will operate on a Saturday schedule starting at 10:00am.Update: Trash and recycling collection in unincorporated Gwinnett County will not take place. Gwinnett County has announced that schools in the district will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018. Loganville Christian Academy and George Walton Academy also closed.

As at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, Walton County School District still plans on operating a normal school day on Wednesday.
“At this time, we are planning to operate on a normal schedule tomorrow. Our team will continue to monitor the weather and road conditions this evening and early tomorrow morning,” said Callen Moore, public information officer for WCSD. The information has been posted on the WCSD Facebook Page and will be updated if the circumstances change. Interestingly, however, Walton County schools in Florida will be out of school Wednesday due to the approaching inclement weather.
Gwinnett County also continues to monitor the situation, but at this time has not made plans to cancel classes on Wednesday.
The Winter Weather Advisory for Walton, Gwinnett and surrounding counties is now in effect from 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, until 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018. Snow is expected so motorists are warned to plan for difficult travel conditions, including during the morning commute. Total snow accumulations of up to 2 inches in parts are expected.
According to Weather.com, there is a 45 percent chance of rain beginning at 8 p.m. with temperatures at 38 degrees. This is expected to turn to snow at 10 p.m. when the temperature goes down to 32 degrees. Then, snow showers are expected on or off until 4 a.m. The current report from Loganville is much the same and Gwinnett County has issued a Wind Chill advisory already for temperatures from 5 above to 5 below zero possible. Winds gusting to near 25 mph are expected and the National Weather Service is warning a wind chill advisory could possibly be issued for Walton County as well. Temperatures are expected to drop into the teens.

Walton and Gwinnett and surrounding counties now in Winter Weather Advisory from 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16 to 7 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018. Light snow with possible accumulations up to 1/2 inch are expected after 9 p.m. this evening in Walton and up to 1 inch in Gwinnett County. Travel difficulties are expected. Motorists are urged to be prepared for snow covered roads. In addition, at this time a Wind Chill Advisory has been issued for Gwinnett County with wind chills to range from 20 above zero to zero. A wind chill advisory means that cold air and wind will combine to create low wind chills and wrote bite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken.

Walton County has now been added to the Special Weather Statement that also includes Gwinnett, Barrow and Rockdale. Stay tuned to updates on traffic and potential school closings.
Although at this time Walton County is not included in a Special Weather Statement warning of the potential for some light snow on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, the surrounding counties of Gwinnett, Barrow and Rockdale are in the alert area. Stay tuned in case of any changes to the alert and any traffic alerts that could impact your commute on Wednesday and Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service, light snow is possible over north and west Georgia Tuesday afternoon and overnight, including into the Metro Atlanta area by Tuesday evening. Forecast amounts are less than an inch but, with temperatures around freezing and wind chills after 9 p.m. taking it down to single digits, any snow that falls is likely to stay on the roads through Thursday morning.
The NWS is warning that this forecast is likely to change so stay tuned for updates from NWS and from the Georgia Department of Transportation regarding road conditions.
