The National Weather Service at Peachtree City has issued a wind advisory for several areas in northeast Georgia, including Gwinnett County, for Thursday, May 8. Walton County is not in the wind advisory. The advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Winds from east to southeast at 15 to 25 mph are expected with gusts of 30 to 40 mph and 40 to 45 mph in higher elevations. These strong winds will bring down large tree limbs and some weaker trees. Unsecured outdoor items may be blown around and driving may be difficult. Driving may be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles and drivers are urged to use extra caution.
The National Weather Service is also warning of the potential for strong to severe storms late tonight, although the local area is not in the high risk area, and then again Thursday into Thursday night.
