The weather played havoc with most of the local Friday night high school football games this weekend, but all were finally completed.
The Monroe Area varsity football team won this week’s home non-conference game against Walnut Grove by a score of 42-2. The game was cut short on Friday night due to the weather, but the Hurricanes were able to complete the win on Saturday afternoon. The Hurricanes get a bye week this week before traveling to Madison to take on the Morgan County Bulldogs in a conference game on Sept. 27.
The Walnut Grove Warriors have a non-conference game at home against Apalachee on Friday, Sept. 20.
The LCA Varsity football team conceded the game to Southland Academy out of Americas 13 – 0 on Friday after cutting it short due to the weather. The team travels to Thomasville on Sept. 20 for an away non-conference game vs Brookwood.
George Walton Academy’s winning streak lost some of its momentum this weekend with the Bulldogs losing 28-21 to Hebron Christian Academy at Dacula. The game delayed Friday due to the weather and picked up again on Saturday evening, going in 7 down to Hebron. With each team putting 21 points on the scoreboard, the game ended with the Bulldogs losing by those 7 points. The Bulldogs are back on the road Sept. 20 for a non-conference game in Hiawassee against Town County.
Social Circle had a bye week and were able to avoid taking on the weather this Friday. The team is back on the road on Sept. 20 for a conference game vs Banks County in Homer, Ga.
Loganville also was able to avoid the weather with a bye week. The Red Devils are home this Friday to take on Winder-Barrow in a non-conference game.
After predictions that we will hit the high 90s again this week, weather predictions have it dropping down to the mid-80s at the 7:30 p.m. kickoff for Friday’s home games. There is a chance of rain, but only 10 percent.
