Winder resident dies in overnight wreck in Gwinnett County

GWINNETT COUNTY: The Gwinnett County Police Department reported that a 47-year-old Winder man died in a single-vehicle accident in Gwinnett County that happened in the early morning hours of Monday, March 25, 2018. The GCPD Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the wreck that happened at about 3:45 a.m. Monday morning. According to the preliminary report from GCPD, Shawn Strackbein was driving in his white GMC Safari on Langford Road near Corner Oak Drive in unincorporated Norcross when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle turned sideways, struck a curb and started to roll.

“According to the preliminary investigation, Shawn was not wearing a seatbelt.  He was ejected out of the vehicle and died as a result of his injuries,” said Cp. Michele Pihera, public information officer for GCPD. “No other vehicles were involved. The roadway was reopened at approximately 6 am.  Notification was made to the driver’s family.”
