Statistics provided by Georgia Department of Public Safety

The 78-hour Independence Day holiday travel period ended with 12 traffic-related fatalities across Georgia, according to the Georgia State Patrol. GSP Troopers investigated nine fatal crashes, while local law enforcement agencies reported three additional fatal crashes in the jurisdictions of the Atlanta Police Department, Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, and Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. No injuries were reported in the Walton or Gwinnett County area or by GSP Post 46 in Monroe.

The holiday enforcement period ran from 6:00 p.m. Thursday, July 2, through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 5. This is one less fatality than reported during the 2025 July 4th travel period.

In addition to the fatal crashes, GSP Troopers investigated more than 295 traffic crashes statewide, including 15 involving commercial motor vehicles. Those crashes resulted in more than 180 injuries.

During the holiday enforcement campaign, Georgia State Patrol Troopers and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers made 20,208 traffic stops, issued 10,806 citations and 14,657 warnings, and arrested 425 drivers for DUI. Officers also cited 1,099 seat belt violations and 235 child restraint violations as part of their efforts to keep Georgia’s roadways safe over the busy holiday weekend.

These crash statistics are preliminary findings and can change at any time after the holiday travel period.
