GWINNETT COUNTY (MAY 28, 2026) Encompass Health and Piedmont officially celebrated the opening of Eastside Rehabilitation Hospital in Loganville on Thursday, marking the completion of a project that leaders say will expand access to inpatient rehabilitation services in Gwinnett County and surrounding communities.
The new freestanding, 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital is expected to begin accepting patients in the coming weeks. The facility is a joint venture between Encompass Health and Piedmont and represents Encompass Health’s ninth hospital in Georgia and its eighth partnership with Piedmont Healthcare across Georgia and Alabama.
Hospital leaders, community officials, staff and healthcare partners gathered for the ribbon cutting ceremony, held nearly one year after construction began.
“We broke ground this time a year ago and now in just a few weeks we will open these doors to serve patients with the highest quality inpatient rehabilitation services,” hospital CEO Tom Morris said during opening remarks.
Encompass Health South Atlantic Regional President Ronnie Wagley said the partnership between the two healthcare organizations has continued to grow because of a shared focus on patient care.
“This partnership has been successful because we are both centered on excellent patient care, delivering the very best healthcare in our area,” Wagley said.
Wagley noted that Eastside Rehabilitation Hospital is Encompass Health’s 176th hospital nationwide and said the need for rehabilitation services is expected to continue increasing as the population ages.
“As the aging population grows here in Gwinnett County and surrounding communities, we’ll be here to meet that recovery need and help them return to their highest level of function,” he said.
Piedmont Eastside Medical Center President and CEO Larry Ebert said the project has been years in the making and highlighted the growing demand for rehabilitation services.
“For nine consecutive years, Piedmont Eastside’s inpatient rehabilitation program ranked in the top 10% nationally for quality and patient-centered care,” Ebert said. “We’re excited to see that teamwork continue here.”
Morris, who grew up in Gwinnett County and previously worked at Eastside Medical Center, called leading the hospital “coming home, in a sense.”
“This hospital is uniquely designed with patients in mind,” Morris said.
The facility includes private patient rooms, a therapy gym, an activities of daily living suite designed to simulate real-world activities, an on-site dialysis suite and a therapy courtyard. Patients will receive a minimum of three hours of therapy per day, five days a week.
“As we celebrate here in our state-of-the-art therapy gym, I want to point out that this is a room where hope will be restored to so many lives,” Morris said. “It’s where patients will regain their independence.”
Several local leaders attended the event, including Loganville Mayor Brandon Whitfield and Assistant City Manager Jeff Smith and Grayson Mayor Allison Wilkerson.
Although the hospital is not in the Loganville City Limits, it has a Loganville address and is in close proximity for residents in and around the surrounding communities of Grayson and Loganville.
“Having a great facility like this so close to the city is going to be great for the residents of Loganville,” Smith said.
Hospital officials said they are optimistic the new facility will help meet the region’s growing rehabilitation needs while providing patients with care closer to home.
