Georgia Writers Museum announces the October Meet the Author presenter will be award-winning author Michael Lucker on Tuesday, October 6th, at 7pm (doors open at 6:30pm). Lucker will be presenting Rule One, a book written with the irreverent wit of Get Shorty author Elmore Leonard and Slaughterhouse-Five author Kurt Vonnegut. The mind-bending mystery novel leads readers on a wild ride through America’s back alleys. Here is the backstory.

Dent McCreary has been dumped by his ex, misses her daughter, and lives in a roach-infested apartment, using Jack Daniels and Pepto Bismol to get by. It is no way for one of the country’s leading FBI profilers to live. When a renowned doctor is found dead in a dryer in LA, Dent and his rookie partner are brought in to investigate. They must navigate the nation’s healthcare system to stop a madman from killing doctors from coast to coast.

Michael Lucker is an award-winning author, screenwriter, and educator with fifteen years’ experience writing for major studios and lecturing at major universities. After graduating from Boston University’s College of Communication, he landed in LA, working in production for ABC, NBC, CBS, and HBO before taking a job as assistant to Steven Spielberg on the feature films Always, Arachnophobia, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Jurassic Park.

Lucker went on to work in creative affairs at Hollywood Pictures on such movies as Crimson Tide, Terminal Velocity, Straight Talk, and Taking Care of Business before embarking on a career as a screenwriter for Paramount, Disney, DreamWorks, Fox, and Universal on films Vampire in Brooklyn, Home on The Range, Mulan II, Lilo & Stitch II, Emperor’s New Groove II, and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, which was nominated for an Academy Award as best animated feature.

A renowned instructor in screenwriting, Lucker serves as senior lecturer at the University of North Georgia, a mentor in Reinhardt University’s Creative Writing MFA program, and is the founder of Screenwriter School. In 2017, the Georgia Film Academy hired him to create a high school screenwriting curriculum which has since been taught to more than 15,000 students in the state.
