Local lottery players score big in Loganville and Monroe

While the Georgia Lottery is no substitute for a retirement plan, a couple of local players recently had plenty to celebrate after winning significant prizes.

According to a press release from the Georgia Lottery, a lucky player purchased a $20,000-winning Mega Millions ticket at Chevron Circle K, 2705 Loganville Highway in Loganville, matching four of the five white balls and the Mega Ball in the July 24 drawing. The prize also included the game’s built-in 2X multiplier.

And earlier this month, another fortunate player won $125,000 in the July 15 Fantasy 5 drawing with a ticket purchased at Walton Truck Stop, 1490 Highway 78 East in Monroe.

Meanwhile, the state’s biggest jackpots continue to grow. Tuesday night’s Mega Millions jackpot reached an estimated $800 million, while Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot stands at an estimated $663 million.

Lottery officials remind players that while these local wins are exciting, the odds of winning a major jackpot remain extremely long. The Georgia Lottery is designed as entertainment, and financial experts continue to recommend saving and investing—not lottery tickets—as the path to long-term financial security.

It does, however, fund Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program
