LOGANVILLE, Ga. — A Loganville police officer who risked her own life to rescue a man trapped inside a burning home has been recognized as Piedmont Walton Hospital’s August 2026 First Friday Hero.
Officer Crystal Cintron of the Loganville Police Department received the honor for her actions during a June 23 house fire on Bay Creek Road, where officials say her quick response saved a resident’s life.
According to Piedmont Walton Hospital, Officer Cintron was the first emergency responder to arrive at the scene around 9:30 a.m. She found flames shooting through the roof and heavy smoke pouring from the home.
As she approached the residence, Officer Cintron saw one person near the front door and another resident attempting to escape through a bedroom window blocked by a window air conditioning unit. After directing the first occupant away from the burning home, she rushed to help the trapped man. Unable to free himself, the resident was pulled over the air conditioning unit and safely removed from the house before the fire intensified.
Fire officials later said the man likely would have become trapped inside the burning home had Officer Cintron not acted so quickly. Both firefighters and the victim’s family credited her with saving his life.
“First responders are called to make difficult decisions in a matter of seconds, and Officer Cintron didn’t hesitate,” said Blake Watts, CEO of Piedmont Walton Hospital. “She arrived to find a house in flames and immediately jumped into action, running toward danger to help someone she had never met. Her actions reflect the dedication, courage, and compassion that make Walton County first responders special.”
Officer Cintron joined the Loganville Police Department in November 2024. Hospital officials noted her actions were especially remarkable because she was the mother of a four-month-old baby at the time of the rescue, yet instinctively put herself in harm’s way to save a stranger.
Piedmont Walton Hospital’s First Friday Heroes program recognizes first responders who demonstrate exceptional service and commitment to the Walton County community.
