Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts offers a 4-week workshop to make a chunky yarn blanket

Cost for the workshop is $50 for all four classes – you will need to purchase the yard

Those looking for a creative and relaxing summer project can sign up for a four-week Chunky Yarn Blanket workshop with instructor Michelle Small at Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts.

The class will meet Thursdays in June, beginning June 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $50 for the entire four-session course.

Designed for all skill levels, including beginners, participants will learn how to hand-knit a soft, oversized blanket using chunky chenille yarn—without the need for knitting needles. Throughout the workshop, students will be guided through every step of the process, from starting the blanket and joining yarn to finishing the completed project.

By the end of the course, each participant will leave with a handmade blanket and the skills needed to create future projects on their own.

The class is open to ages 16 and older, with a maximum enrollment of 10 students. Participants will need to purchase an eight-pack of jumbo chenille chunky yarn before the first class. A chunky blanket loom is optional but may help create a more consistent finished product.

Organizers say the workshop offers a welcoming environment where participants can enjoy creativity, connection, and a little self-care while crafting a cozy blanket to keep or give as a gift.

Last-minute registrations will be accepted if space remains available and the class has not sold out. Click or tap on this link to register.
