The Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts (MWCA) is expanding opportunities for experienced ceramic artists with the introduction of its new Independent Studio Membership program at the Get Centered Pottery Studio.
Designed for adult potters who can work safely and independently, the program provides approved members with access to the pottery studio during designated times when classes, workshops, camps, and other MWCA programs are not in session. This is not a class or open studio and is intended only for experienced potters.
Applicants must complete a one-time application and receive approval before using the studio. Membership costs $12 per visit, with clay purchased through MWCA, which includes glazing and firing.
The program is available to MWCA members who have prior pottery experience, understand studio safety, can work without instruction, and are committed to maintaining the shared studio by following cleanup procedures and respecting equipment and fellow artists.
Studio access is available during regular MWCA operating hours, as well as select after-hours sessions supervised by Studio Captains. Members are responsible for checking the weekly studio schedule, as availability varies based on classes, events, and maintenance.
MWCA officials say the program has been introduced in phases following efforts to restore and better organize the pottery studio. The goal is to provide greater access while maintaining a safe, clean, and collaborative environment for all users.
