N. Lumpkin Street in Monroe becomes one-way Monday

Effective from Monday, May 1, 2017, N. Lumpkin Street will be one way. It will run north from East Spring Street to East Highland Street.

The Monroe City Council voted last month to make the change, partly because of the limited parking on N. Lumpkin. According to the proposal, making N. Lumpkin one way would open up several more parking spaces, particularly if the parking spaces are angled and would allow for better streetscaping and better access to the livery stables event center currently being developed.

In addition, it would allow for two dumpsters to be moved off of the private lot and into the street for easier servicing.
